Summer School of Academic Ballet

During the summer of 2019, the most successful and accomplished dancers produced by Russia's premiere ballet academies will lead 3-week master classes in Tarragona, Spain – the birthplace of European ballet.

Accredited instructors from St. Petersburg's Vaganova Academy, the Moscow State Academy of Choreography, the Perm State Ballet School, and leading dancers from Europe's ballet theaters will work daily with aspiring ballet dancers from around the world. From the world's premier stages to Tarragona, to share their expertise!

For this group, a special program has been developed that takes into account the age physiological structure.

The Russian Ballet Team summer school program is optimized for students' daily routine, so there are three class-scheduling alternatives: morning, daytime, and evening.

In 2018, Alexei Busko staged a one-act ballet for the premiere of the Mariinsky Theater, Danila Korsuntsev, on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater.

Thus, students will achieve a unique experience that will mark a turning point in their development: a dance with the best and in front of a thousand spectators will provide real professional merit.
We have taken special care in attending to the comfort of our students, who will reside for the duration of our training at the modern, comfortable, and safe buildings of the Tarragona University residence.
Accommodation: double/twin room (BB), lunch and dinner are to be paid extra (€15 per day).

Popular Questions
How will groups be formed: in age or training?
Groups will be divided by level of professional training and age: semi-professionals and professional; 10-13, 14-15, 16-20 years. We also received applications for the formation of a group over 20 years old and a junior group.
Will ballet primes and premieres be able to lead ballet classes?
Classes will be conducted by teachers of choreographic educational institutions. Ballerinas will practice and prepare for the lesson, they all have experience in summer ballet intensives.
Why does the program of the morning, afternoon and evening groups differ?
Different age groups have different schedules. For example, the methodical program of the Academy of Russian Ballet. Vaganova assumes teaching of the historical taca to 13 years, and from 14 years - characteristic.
Can I get to summer intensive academic ballet, if I am over 20 years old?
We received applications to form a group over 20 years old. Write to us - we will help you!
How to sign up and register?

Is it possible to leave for the summer intensive with my parents?
We welcome the desire of many parents to support their child during the intense. Write to us about this - we will help you find apartments and offer options for a joint holiday at the weekend.
How to get from the airport to the campus ballet intense?
From Barcelona Airport on June 30, every 2 hours a bus will depart to Tarragona's student residence.

Inna Bilash
Inna Bilash graduated from Perm state choreographic school (College) in 2009 (class of teacher E. V. Bystritskaya). Since 2009 she has been a soloist of the Perm Opera house. She is the laureate of the international competition" Arabesque "in 2014, laureate of the prize Toshihiko Takahashi, laureate of the III prize for the performance of contemporary choreography at the competition"Arabesque " in 2014. And finaly together with the premiere dancer- Nikita Chetverikov she became the laureate of the television competition "Grand ballet" (2016).
Artur Shesterikov
Artur, was born in the Soviet Union into a ballet family – both his father and mother were dancers with the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theatre. His father Igor Shesterikov was a soloist and had success in character and dramatic roles. His mother Elena Kulagina was a well-known prima in Russia and abroad. Both of his parents now teach in the Perm ballet school and theater.

Immediately after graduating with honors from The Perm Ballet School in 2002, Artur joined the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theatre. He danced soloist and principal roles from a young age and toured extensively internationally with the company. In 2004 he reached the final round of the "Arabesque" international ballet competition and received the "most talented dancer" prize.

In 2007 he joined the Dutch National Ballet, where he was quickly promoted to principal dancer. He also received the "Alexandra Radius prize" for remarkable achievements. For several years in a row he was mentioned by the critics at Dance Europe magazine's for outstanding performances in George Balanchine's Apollon Musagete, Natalia Makarova's La Bayadere, and John Cranko's Onegin.

Besides most of the classical ballets, Artur's repertoire includes multiple diverse works by famous choreographers such as George Balanchine, William Forsythe, and Hans Van Manen. He has also had the opportunity to work with Krzysztof Pastor, Hans Van Manen, John Neumeier, Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, Natalia Makarova, Diana Vishneva (as partner), Peter Wright, Benjamin Millepied, and others.

Artur has appeared in various worldwide gala performances, festivals, and as a guest artist with multiple companies.
Maia Makhateli
Maia, was born in Tbilisi (Georgia), where she began her ballet training at the Chabukiani Choreographic Institute. In 2002 Maia moved to the United States and continued her training in Colorado. Her success in various competitions there led to an offer from the Colorado Ballet, where she was soon a principal. In 2005 she joined the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and in 2006 she was invited to join the Dutch National Ballet, where she became a principal dancer.

  • 2014 — Maia was nominated as one of the outstanding dancers in the Netherlands by Critics Choice for her performance in Aleksei Ratmansky's Firebird and Balanchine's Tchaikovsky Pas de deux.
  • 2015 — Alexandra Radius Prize for remarkable achievements.
  • 2015—2016 nominated as best dancer of the year by Critics choice for the Role of Mata Hari in the ballet by Ted Brandsen, Balanchine's Theme and Variations, and the role of Clara in the Nutckracker.
  • 2017–2018 critics choice Outstanding performance in Aleksey Ratmansky's Don Quixote the role of Kitri.

He has created 5 duets and 2 full performances, including a duet in 2014 at the Bolshoi Theater for Vladimir Vasiliev's evening of dance in memoriam of the great Ekaterina Maksimova.
Currently an instructor in contemporary dance at the Kiev State Ballet School.
